Jim, the filter removes the larger particles from the oil, but not the
acids that form during combustion. I've had a filter for about 20
years, but I change the oil every 25 hours and cut the filter open and
inspect the filter paper each time.

just looking for a light casual poll on oil changing -
as I get it, "convention wisdom" is 25 hours w/o filter and 50 hours
w/ filter.....
but if you read Vissers' Voice in AvWeb (and I respect this fellow - a
career av. petroleum engineer with Shell, now retired, with whom I
have conversed), I recall him recommending 25 hours filter or not [if
my memory is working]. I added a filter to my C-85 about 20 hours
ago. All tach hours by the way - any comments about tach vs. Hobbs
timing to kick in as well??
So, what you y'all think?

...I guess I'm leaning for between 25 to 50 as the situation and
season feels like -e.g. I'm contemplating OSH, so I figured I'd run it
up until into July and then change a couple weeks before, and see
where I was after. Kind of like I do with my cars - try to balance
common sense with recommendations.
