John, My C-90 was recently overhauled - 110 TTSMOH.   I'm getting 163 deg F, with oil press at 45 psi, oprating at 2400 rpm, 2000' msl, OAT 73 deg F. I'm sure not exceeding the OAT plus 110 deg figure (some say plus 100 ?). My concern is that my oil temp may be running too cool, especially if it lowers when the ambient temps drop after the warm Summer months. If so, I might have to get some of the baffling modified?  I'm told I could verify the oil temp gauge reading by removing the temp sensor bulb from the engine and immersing it it boiling oil or water in a can while having someone read the cockpit gauge. That is beyond my limited mechanical skills. Alternately, I'm told I could (quickly !!) leap out of the airplane after shutdown, try not to fall off my wing, open my LH cowl , remove the oil filler cap and insert a "candy thermometer". Presumably, comparing the thermometer reading with the temp gage reading on shutdown, might give a fairly accurate gauge calibration. I suggest you try this first and let me know how you make out ! Be careful on the wing, and have a screwdriver, candy thermometer and a First aid Kit handy at your shutdown area. Also, you may want to have a friend film it for TV's America's Funniest Home Videos !  DON
