Hey Darick: The carbon is effectively removed at overhaul, and the right
time to change the type of oil used is at the first or second oil change after
overhaul. I am not an expert, but I believe that neither 100 W or 100 W plus are
synthetic oils. I think they are ash less dispersant type oil, and the plus has
an additive that Lycoming requests be used in their engines.
