When you say using mineral oil for several years....1) after an overhaul, is the carbon still there or is it effectively removed by doing the overhaul?  Would it be ok to switch to PLUS after an overhaul?  2) do you suspect carbon to be formed after only 30 hours after a major?  Is 100 or 100 plus a synthetic?  I'm considering changing from mineral oil to a synthetic.

I agree that the carbon will be removed during a proper overhaul and
no there should not be any build up in a few hours.  Matter of fact it
used to be (and may still be) recommended that straight mineral oil be
used until the rings were seated and oil consumption stabilized after
overhaul.   Not knowing for sure when the rings are seated 100 hr. of
straight mineral oil after overhaul  was generally accepted then change
to detergent oil.  This was the way it was done years ago, so things
may have changed.
