Eliacim et all, To add to what Holger Zinke said earlier;
Tonight after repairing my backward fuel cap, I decided to fly for awhile. The engine ran rough at low to mid RPM’s but with full power applied, seemed to run up OK. However, it just didn’t sound quite right. I did fly around the patch in a tight pattern just in case. When I tried to shut down using the mixture control ( Marvel carb on a C-90), to my surprise, the engine RPM jumped up by about 500 and smoothed out. I tried this several times with the same results. I finally shut it down with the mag switch and called my mechanic. Right away he nailed the problem over the phone. I had failed to lock the primer. I then experimented with the primer in various positions. I can create several power problem symptoms with different positions of the primer plunger. If it is “leaking” just a tiny bit, leaning the mixture causes a big RPM increase.
