Hello Don. Good to meet you in Terrell. I have a working mixture control and (when my plane works) at cruising altitude, I lean by starting at full rich and leaning, while looking for an increase in rpm. I am looking at installing EGT for 2 reasons: 1. To make leaning easier and more precise. Sometimes it's hard for me to peak with the tach. The increase in RPM is not huge, and vibration and aging eyesight don't help me in finding the RPM peak. 2. As a troubleshooting aid. To have something that tells me if one cylinder is suddenly behaving very different than the other 3.
