Couldn't see much of the pic, but no, anything breaking in the engine is an abnormality.  Matter of fact, this is the first I've heard of a generator shaft breaking.  The engine should at least have a teardown inspection and for only a few more dollars, a conditional repair, meaning whatever looks or measures bad is replaced. Not exactly an overhaul but almost as good.

Greetings Ercoupers,

I would appreciate any insight any of you may offer, here is my questions: Is it a common occurrence in Continental Engines for generator shaft to break off (see enclosed photo)? Has anyone experienced such a misfortune? Should the engine be sent for over haul?

Thanks – Sean
