Scott, I also bought a Sky-tec push button starter and did the installation on my 85 continental while installed on the aircraft. It is not that hard but you must follow the provided instructions. It is very important to build a dam inside the starter case to prevent any metal particles from entering the rear case while cutting off the shaft. I did have trouble with mine also. It would not make contact while pushing the start button every so often. I called Sky-tec and they told me to return it for repair. They promptly returned it back to me at no charge, it had a defective case. After a few starts later it failed to make contact while pushing the start button again. Since I was away from home base without tools, I found a rock the size of a potato and whacked the back of the starter motor and it has worked great since, go figure. All work was done with the blessing of my IA. Richard L. 3041H

Steve
If you replace the pull starter with a push button type, it is not just a matter of buying
one and bolting it on. You must do some work to remove some do-hicky which I am
sure someone else could tell you what it is. I think the B&C starter is the better choice,
however I believe it costs a bit more. I originally installed a Sky-Tec that was not built
correctly at the factory. The Sky-Tec folks repaired it under warranty, but I sold it and
got the B&C to replace it. I like this starter much better.

Looking for a Starter for My Alon C-90. Mine died today. Any suggestions where to start. I pulled it the brushes look fine. It has been dragging for about a year. It finally is time to replace it before I get stuck where I don’t want to be.

Thanks in advance.
