Latest news; not good.  The shop I'm working with can't build a new one more economically than a new Univair tank.  I can understand his situation-there's a lot to fabricating from scratch without prints.  He understands the economy of mass production and would be less expensive if he knew there would be 5 or 10 more to build in the future.  Which brings up my first question.  Are there prints for sale for coupes, particularly for header tanks (naturally).  I understand Cubs, Taylorcraft, etc. are easily available and was hoping the same for coupes.  Secondly, he's proposing a repair starting with cutting 2 access holes to enable thorough cleaning.
This fellow's work and reputation are impeccable and I have no doubt he can do the job.  But, I'm just wondering if I'd be better off just sending it to John Wright, who's been through this whole process many times.
Thanks for any advice.

.....Oh sorry, just read the email about drawings which are available.

I hope it's not going badly with the repair.  Roger on the new tank, but it is a bit pricey, money that could be put into other things!  Sometimes it's best to have the existing stuff repaired.  Have you contacted John Wright Jr. yet?  I hear he's about $500 to repair these tanks.  Remember there is nothing magical about making tank repairs, homebuilders do it all the time.  If you have the welded tank, it's the skill of the welder that matters, not the piece of paper.  Good luck and keep us all posted, that's how we learn.

No I didn't give him a blank check.  We're still deciding the best course of action, although I'd prefer a new fabricated tank at this point.

Did you send your current tank out for repair without getting a quote?  Even a ballpark one?  I've found in my experience that a blank check to someone working on airplanes is always a disaster.
