Tandy,

Headphone/headset connectors on radios are a continual problem. I've junked
several cheap radios and tape players because I jerked on the headset cord
too hard too many times.

It's entirely possible you've damaged the headset connectors inside the
radio. More often, it's the radio adapter cord that goes bad first - I'm on
my third one for my Sporty's handheld.

Finally, I started duct taping the cord to the body of the radio right when
I got it with a gentle curve from the duct taped cord to the radio's
connectors. Then, when I stupidly jerk on the cord, it's the duct tape and
maybe the short adaptor cord that takes the stress, not the radio's
connectors.

It might be that you could get the radio serviced. When I sent my Sporty's
in for service, they sent me a refurbished replacement, somewhat newer,
that's worked for many years and didn't even charge me even though it was
outside the warranty period. (The transmitter was staying keyed and not
releasing.)

But at any rate, it's critically important to be nice to any radio's
headphone jack. They are fragile.

Ed
