Not sure if this is folk lore, but the reqson to stay off the brakes is two fold:

1) So you stay in control and don't skid down the runway.....

2) So you don't warm up the rotors....which will melt any snow kicked up on them. Then when you stop and park, will freeze the brake pads to the rotor......good luck moving after that......folk lore? Sounds logical......

On the 2nd point, hmmmmmmm - wouldn't that effect motor cars as well? I don't recall having this sort of grief (lots of other, of course).

soon to be N93963, currently N57992 - YES! I was able to pry my as-manufactured N-number out of the FAA, after my Representative's office gave 'em a call. (Why someone changed it in the 50s I cannot imagine.)
