Too many people have heard this and heard that but can never provide any data 
at all.  Old Wives Tales, they call them and they could in fact have actually 
happened to more than a few folks.  But without something to look at I won't 
comment on that report as I've seen the practice widely.  I like to use Teflon 
tie wraps on a certificated airplane.  They hold up much better and aren't that 
much more expensive if you know where to buy them.  For example, I buy mine 
where from my fire alarm equipment supplier.  But, these aren't priced to 
waste, either.

Here's something new!
  I use nylon tie wraps on my engine mount to support the Ingition wireing etc. 
A fellow pilot at my airport said he had info on that the tire wraps may 
causing fracturing of the mount under the wrap. Comments?
