Ercoupe Guru's. I have a young fellow in the hanger next to me who also owns
an ercoupe with a 75hp continental that has been majored with new millennium
cyl.pistons, rings, push rods etc. The aircraft has been a thorn in his side
expense wise. The aircraft has been in a repair shop for over a year, wings
off, all center section rivets electronically checked, main fuel tank leak
repaired,. tail section removed, cleaned up installed with new bolts. Other
repairs as needed. The engine installed with new millennium cyl. Test flying
shows a vibration level that is not acceptable. He has tried the prop in
different positions to no avail. this was none at a dynamic balance shop. I
think he said he had a figure of 1.7, the mechanic said that was high and
the best he could do.Needles to say he is at his wits end over this.He has
talked to several aircraft mechanics about this problem, and no one has been
able to solve this problem yet. He also has a clearance problem with the
nose bowl protruding too far forward rubbing the prop, a aluminum spacer was
added to maintain clearance. I guess my question on this issue is can one
cut back the cowling rails with out running into other problems. This is not
an isolated problem as I have some propeller marks on my nose bowel that
dates back sometime in the past. I guess my question is has anyone run into
this problem before and the cure. Sometime as individuals we may not be able
to solve problems, but bringing a group knowledge base together can. Thank
you in advance for my friend Richard L. 3041H PS. I would loan him my prop
to try but I have a 85hp with a 71-48.

The "dash" numbers always confuse me. Isn't the -12 the engine with the
vacuum pump? I thought we had the -8 but it's early and I haven't fully
awakened.

I'm looking for an STC or 337 for installing a C-85-12 in a 415-C? Can
anyone help?
Ed,
I believe that no 337 is required. Refer to the type certificate for the
415-C (A718 Item 110.).
