This afternoon the fuel gauge (inside the cockpit) of my 415-C leaked for
the FOURTH time in as many months. My A&P has fixed it 3 times already, but
the repair doesn't seem to hold (more than a couple days to a couple
months). It appears to be leaking right where the glass bezel first touches
the metal ring, since the face of the glass bezel itself gets damp. Each
time it has leaked, it has been the day after a fill-up, but I do NOT fill
the wing tanks up to the top, usually just 1"-2" from the top. Today, I
felt the bezel before I started taxiing, and it felt dry. By the time I
taxied to, and finished in, the run-up area, I saw tell-tale signs of
moisture, and a paper towel applied to the area came away with blue stains
and fuel dampness.
On the last repair, he had me order all new parts from Skyport: new bezel,
new gaskets. And he used a sealer. At least one other time, he said he
tried it without a sealer (John at Skyport told me that the gauge is usually
put back together without a sealer.)
Any ideas for how to make this repair stay repaired? Thanks --
Linda
