Hi Wayne,

I remember you raising this with me the 1st time it leaked, and I did tell
the mechanic what you said about screw length, and checked with him
yesterday that he remembered it. He said he is using the original screws.

I agree, John, the real problem may have occurred when someone inadvertently
used the wrong length screw on the sealed nutsert. They are an absolute
bear to locate. I found some at Oshkosh at the Fly Market one year, I
haven't located them since I moved!

I'm gonna disagree with Lynn. Two gaskets should do the trick. You need
one between the tank flange and the gauge and the second between the gauge
and the lens. Since fuel shouldn't be able to get past the lens, no gasket
is required between the lens and the plate. (Fuel passes through the gauge
to the lens, necessitating the second gasket.

Key to all this working is sealed nut inserts in the tank flange. If fuel
can get to the screws then it can follow the screws up to the heads and out.
A third gasket will not prevent this as there is still metal to metal
between the screw heads and the plate. The bottom of the threaded insert
must be sealed. Putting fuel-lub on the threads of the screws may help if
they do not seal completely.
