Fred,

Here's one of those "gut" feelings you asked for: when I first
started looking at Ercoupes, I debated fabric/metal, and decided to
go with metal when an old-time mechanic mimed the gesture of "one
smart-aleck kid with a pencil at an air show, poking a hole in your
wing." I enjoy displaying my 'Coupe and we have lots of air shows
around L.A. Since then, however, I have seen fabric wings that
looked so coated and sturdy that no casual observer would even guess
they're fabric, or be tempted to poke them.

BTW, the rag-wing 'Coupe I first saw for sale in a photo ~18 mo. ago
was a stunning bright canary yellow. I think it was in N. Carolina.
Does anyone happen to know who bought it, or where it is now?

I am considering recovering my wings next year. I am curious as to the
groups opinion regarding fabric vs. metal wings. What are the
advantages/disadvantages of each.

I am interested in hearing all opinions, even if they are only "gut"
feelings.

I checked the archives to see if there have been past discussions on
this topic, and could not find anything.

Thank you in advance for your input,
Fred Wellman
