I don't know current recover/repainting costs. My amateur-educated Wild Guess is that recovering with metal would cost several times as much as recovering with fabric.
Possible exception: if the wings were already metalized and just need new skin, there's some extra fuss involved in taking them to fabric. But, if there's some reason a metalized wing needed new skins, I'd really wonder what had happened to the insides.
