I appreciate the many answers and suggestions I got from the group.
Several of you said the prop should be at the 2 o'clock position and
I checked
to see where my prop stops. Problem is it doesn't stop at the same
place each
time. It varies from 12 o'clock to 10 o'clock. So guess I will have
to use the position
of the piston in #1 cylinder as the guide. There were two opinions
on where
the piston in #1 cylinder should be with prop at 2 o'clock. Guess I
need some
more opinions on that so I will know which one to accept (TDC vs half
way).

I know of no justification for that placard.
I'm going to go out on a limb here. Maybe it's because the engine
shakes so bad between 1900 and 2150 RPM?

I know of no justification for that placard.
There was at one time an RPM restriction on short stroke
Continentals with
McCauley metal props, but it was rescinded in 1949. It never
applied to the
long stroke (C90 and O200) engines.
