Did you by chance get that information by e-mail or in some other form
or writing?  If you did, it might be nice to share it for other folks to
use with their FSDO, as all FSDO's seem to operate as separate kingdoms.

Hi Bill,
My FAA office here says, "That the only thing we have a problem with the
panel dock is the wiring harness that you buy for your GPS is not
"AIRCRAFT" grade wiring. 
We consider it a minor installation AS LONG AS you either cut the wire
at the plug and change it to aircraft wire OR fire sleeve the existing
wire. That is if you hard wire the GPS. If you use a cigarette adapter
and run the wiring around your panel and plug it into a cigarette power
receptacle. That would be fine to satisfy FAA requirement.
