Last week I asked about carb heat in the 415C as I didn't get an RPM drop
during the preflight takeoff check. I aborted the flight. Found out this
morning from the mechanic the nut that secures the carb flap was loose enough
to lock the flap in place and not allow it to move to give me the heat. It is
tightened and all is well. At Frederick, MD when departing RW 23, there is a
very large and deep limestone quarry that we fly over. I often wonder what it
would be like going into that on departure. I am sure that was on my mind when
I didn 't get the RPM drop when checking it.

Plus my wife, who is also a pilot, watches my every move when preflighting
and during the pretakeoff checklist. She saw no RPM drop when I checked the
carb heat and said we were aborting, which I definitely agreed.
