Wayne, I seem to remember a 10 lb savings in weight. It is indeed a one way conversion.
In the long run, many things are likely to get upgraded to newer technology as the older stuff is more difficult to find and to service. In my case, the older starter needed to be replaced. I saved weight and got a product from a company that is currently in business. SkyTec provided good support. That might be a good enough reason to switch.
