I got to thinking about the Sky-Tec starter yesterday after flying and making several stops. I pull my starter handle and the engine starts within one revolution or at the most two - if I rememeber to prime it and turn the mag key on. Granted, there is a weight savings but the money to upgrade the starter might be better spent on getting the engine running properly with the original starter.
The first place to look for the source of starting and running problems are the spark plug leads. When the top cowl is cut out for longer plugs the edges are sometimes left rough and they chaff or cut into the leads causing them to short out. Just my two or three cents worth.
