Rich.

The rebuilder did what he does with many small continentals that have a
Stromberg.

Some folks will never understand how a Strombergs leaning mechanism works. They
claim it ineffective and wire it rich.

So what does that mean? The rebuilder safety-wired the mixture control in the
rich position on the carburetor. He is actually doing many folks a favor. Some,
if not many aircraft don't have the mixture cable anymore. If you now install
the engine and DON'T wire the mixture control rich, you have an arbitrary
working carburetor.
In a way he is doing the right thing wiring that control rich. For those that
don't have a mixture control, he is on the sfae side. If you want one, just cut
the safety wire when you hook up your control cable.

If I think about it, I would wire all carburetors rich if I would be an engine
rebuilder. That covers my ass.

Rich, there is really nothing to cutting that wire while installing the engine.

I am sure this was probably discussed before in this group but do many
of you wire your mixture full rich? My new engine (C-85-12F) is coming
back next week and the rebuilder said he had wired the mixture full
rich to which I replied I didn't want that done. My guess is if you
don't live away from sea level much or fly cross country much it might
not matter. I do want to be able to lean above 5000' though so I want
to keep it cabled to the cockpit. Am I missing anything?
