Obviously not an engine overhaul shop, just a regular guy who is good with 
engines?  You really want the mixture control working properly and if that 
requires a carb overhaul, go for it.  You should lean everywhere you can not 
only to conserve fuel but to keep the innards of the cylinders clean.

  I am sure this was probably discussed before in this group but do many 
  of you wire your mixture full rich? My new engine (C-85-12F) is coming 
  back next week and the rebuilder said he had wired the mixture full 
  rich to which I replied I didn't want that done. My guess is if you 
  don't live away from sea level much or fly cross country much it might 
  not matter. I do want to be able to lean above 5000' though so I want 
  to keep it cabled to the cockpit. Am I missing anything?
