Ed,
This is a common problem and almost all scales will weigh heavy.
If you doubt this statement at all, just ask your wife ...or almost any woman.

I’m mistrustful of scales. I personally weigh way too much and that means I’m near the end of the range of many bathroom scales. I can get on many scales and get a value 20-40 lb. off what I think is my true weight.

Finally, I found a good bathroom scale which gives consistent and accurate results. I’ve checked it against at least five doctor’s “certified” balance arm scales and it has been within a pound of them. (A sixth supposedly certified balance arm scale in one of my doctor’s exam rooms was declared by me to be way off and confirmed by other complaints.)

I don’t know if the earlier scales you used were wrong or if the current scales are wrong or both. I’d suggest you see if you can find someplace with balance-arm scales that can be calibrated with a calibration weight – then weigh the plane again.

Has anyone got suggestions how provably accurate scales can be found?
