Ercoupe N415CB lives! Soloed today, it was great. She flew like a perfect lady. Found the fuel smell problem. The header tank fuel cap wasn't on properly and it had been leaking fuel. Once that was addressed, no more fuel smell! Period!! Also, both wing tanks are properly connected and they do feed back and forth properly. I tell you what, there are some of the nicest and most helpful people on this group and I feel extremely grateful that I found it. Many of you have taken the time to send me suggestions, encouragement, anecdotes, and technical advice about how to properly care for my "new" plane. Thank you--each and every one--for your help. I even printed out a few and shared them with my instructor so that he could better understand the Ercoupe 415C. I will continue to monitor this blog and I most likely will need more help in the future, but I'm not concerned about asking questions here. My plans are to continue doing takeoffs and landings over the next couple of days, then my instructor and I are going to go wring it out a little with stalls and the like next week as weather permits. It is amazing how quickly I was able to really make good landings with the aircraft. Out of the eight I did to full stop today, only one was what I considered "bad." As I came in over the numbers I was hit with a pretty strong gust that blew me to the left of the runway; while correcting the aircraft back to the center of the strip, I got behind my power curve a little and the landing was a bit hard (but not terribly so). I learned from it. Fly the plane and keep scanning and don't let my speed bleed off too much before the flair. Have a great weekend!
