Just a note to clear up mis-understandings of terms. The Continental engine in the ercoupe was originally fitted with an OIL COOLER. It was found to not be necessary to maintain safe operating temperatures, and was deleted from standard equipment. ( now we often use the mounting point for an oil filter installation). Insulation of the OIL TANK resevoir is often necessary in very cold climates to maintain proper operating oil temperature, and to prevent condensatioin forming in the oil resevoir tank. Some folks utilize a metal cover over the hole in the nose cowl below the prop; others utilize a "clip on blanket" on the oil tank itself. There is also a baffle installation kit specified in the modification of a C-75 to a C-85; available thgru Univair of Skyport. This baffleing does help maintain proper temperatures. It is SK-24 Oil Tank Baffle Cooling kit for c-75 to C-85 conversion. Interestingly, it appears to be for increased cooling for the higher HP engine. BUT, I found that without the kit installed my oil temperature never rose above 140 F even in hot temperatures. Installed, I found my oil temp runs at about 180 F in all weather, even in hot weather I never have seen temperatures above 190F. Fly Safe - Have Fun Harry Francis N93530
