Hello,
We have been lurking on your list for a while because I fly a Luscombe
11A Sedan and it is the only other airplane that I am aware of that
was certificated not to stall, like yours are. That and we personally
love the ERcoupes. In fact when we lived in the DC area we planned a
gathering of luscombes at College Park Airport which was to have
included a parade of Luscombes down the Anacostia River just like you
guys did in a previous year. We think you have excellent taste in fly
in activities. Unfortunately, our fly in was carelessly scheduled for
September 29/30, 2001 --- yes, a couple of weeks or so after 9/11.
Needless to say there were no luscombes at our fly in.... but Luscombe
pilots flew in commercially or drove from all over the country to
attend anyway. It was a giant slumber party with catered food. We
downloaded pictures of our airplanes and mounted them on paint sticks
and stuck them in the chain link fence - our static display. A good
time was had by all anyway.
Anyway we are based at Tullahoma, TN, at KTHA. We have lots of runways
- 2 of them turf, 2 more that are cement. The Beechcraft Heritage
Museum is here on the airport - it used to be called the STaggerwing
Museum. There are a couple of cheap hotels in town, and a Hampton Inn,
and a nice B&B with 6 rooms..... kind of a range. There is an airport
car or two, plus our old Dodge. Jack Daniels Distillery 9 miles down
the road in Lynchburg gives a great tour in case you tire of the
Staggerwing.
So if you would like to consider coming here, we would be thrilled to
have you. Just a thought. Y'all come see us.

Why don't we just show up at Moraine on what, June umpteenth (I
forget the exact day). Someone nearby can warn the FBO about it. We
can make our own reservations at the Super 8 and set up a "banquet"
when we get there, wherever a close by restaurant can accommodate
how many we are. Plus we can troop over to the fellow (again I
forget) who offered his nearby hangar for a cookout. I'll bet there
will be adequate ground transportation for any tours we take - I'll
probably rent a car (maybe even a van) and I imagine at least one
other "Couper" will too.
All we need is an e-mail address to sign up. If no one else closer
can coordinate the list of attendees I'd be glad to do it. No one
has to guarantee anything and we'll p[probably have a grand time.
