What John is referring to is that a non-structural part like the interior panels of your Coupe you may alter yourself, even remove it and in most cases not even the weight and balance will be affected.
If you replace the seat frame with buckets or cessna seats, you will need to have it signed off and part of the technical description of the 337 should be that the structural support of the back rest is insignificant. (just E-Mail me) BTW. I had bucket seats in my Ercoupe when I bought it and the installation was not signed off. The first thing we did in preparation of the next annual was installing the original seat.
