Dan; Got paperwork for that? If so, good for you as the current crop of misfits would make you jump through so many hoops for approval that you would go Experimental.
Now remember what John said about the engine is fed fuel by gravity from the header tank. The header tank is fed by the fuel pump. If you watch the wire you will have about 45 minutes of warning that you're running out. By using that method you could save about 8 pounds of weight added by an electric fuel pump and all it's fixin's and not have to worry about buying an okay to not go on a diet. Coop, is what you're saying the holdup on your releasing the 15 gallon mods again? Sounds logical. How expensive and rare is the O-200 mechanical pump? Different camshaft? The original fuel pump is engine driven as I understand it. The second fuel pump is for use only if the engine driven pump fails. I can't use it in flight without transferring too much fuel to the left tank. I have the 2 9 gal wing tanks on a 415C with a c-90 engine. I don't know why the previous owner installed the back up fuel pump; but nice to know I can transfer the fuel from wing tanks to header if the engine driven pump fails. The standard Ercoupe fuel system uses the engine driven pump to transfer fuel from the wing tanks to the header tank. Fuel feed to the engine is by gravity feed. No fuel pump is required. Since the engine driven pump is being used as a transfer pump, no backup pump is required. The O200 engine generally is not configured for an engine driven pump. The vast majority of O200 engines are installed in high wing planes and gravity fed, so the parts to drive an engine driven fuel pump are extremely rare and expensive. For this reason, the O200 STC allows the use of an electric transfer pump, but, again, since it is not feeding the engine, no backup pump is required. There is another STC to remove the header tank and install 2 15 gallon wing tanks instead. This STC requires the engine driven pump to feed fuel from the wing tanks to the carburetor, and, because it's feeding the carburetor, a backup pump is required. The backup pump is electric. Now, consider the combination of an O200 and the 15 gallon wing tanks. Since the O200 engine driven pump is a scarce and expensive option, could we instead use 2 electric pumps? Well, the answer is "no". The backup pump cannot be powered by the same electrical system as the main pump, so, baring dual alternators and batteries, this is not an option. So, I cannot think of a configuration where dual electric pumps would be called for. I recently saw a Coupe with 2 electric fuel pumps and no mechanical engine driven fuel pump on an O200 engine. The Skyport O200 STC calls for just one electric fuel pump, if I recall correctly. Look forward to hearing from anyone who is familiar with this type of system. Jose Gibert Vero Beach ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Links
