Rather than look at over 400 hits on carb in the archives, I decided
to ask for a new recount of group wisdom.
I'm working with an Ercoupe, C-75. Has the Stromberg NA-53A1. What
it does is "hesitate" when the throttle is advanced. It starts and
idles just fine, but accelerating the engine up to a thousand RPM or
so causes it to miss and almost die. By retarding the throttle, it
goes back to smooth idle. After getting over the 1000 - 1300 RPM
point, it responds to the throttle fine again. Any Ideas?
Today I inspected the intakes and they looked good. I took the
screen out of the carb and it was clean. Tightened the prime plumbing.
The discussion lately about the "automatic rich" got me to thinking
if that has something to do with it. I wouldn't know one if it bit
me. Could this be an "accelerator pump" issue? My IA says something
about removing the bottom plugs, but I don't want to go there as is
doesn't make sence to me right now.
So lay it on me, Sports Fans. And does any body have a line on the
books for that beast?
