Percy,
        My 415C with a C-90 engine does the same thing.
I've found it is much worse when the engine is cold. I've
also found it seems to run better when I first start it and
am taxing out for take-off if I pull the carb heat on (even
before the engine has warmed up).
As you have found, being gentle with throttle movements
prevents the problem most of the time.
