The hesitation stumble around 1000 rpm indicates a lean condition in the Stromberg carburetor. That can be caused by a list of problems. 1. idle discharge hole blocked - idle not properly adjusted. 2. leak at intake tubes or inlet elbows to cylinder connections 3. slow valves creating leaks The Stromberg carburetor uses no accelerator pump per design. This should not cause a problem as long as one moves the throttle slowly. Try to adjust the mixture with the curly know at the carburetor. If that does not solve the problem, you have an induction leak somewhere or a gummed up carburetor. These are the problems you can hunt for days after. I hate them. I'm working with an Ercoupe, C-75. Has the Stromberg NA-53A1. What it does is "hesitate" when the throttle is advanced. It starts and idles just fine, but accelerating the engine up to a thousand RPM or so causes it to miss and almost die. By retarding the throttle, it goes back to smooth idle. After getting over the 1000 - 1300 RPM point, it responds to the throttle fine again. Any Ideas? Today I inspected the intakes and they looked good. I took the screen out of the carb and it was clean. Tightened the prime plumbing. The discussion lately about the "automatic rich" got me to thinking if that has something to do with it. I wouldn't know one if it bit me. Could this be an "accelerator pump" issue? My IA says something about removing the bottom plugs, but I don't want to go there as is doesn't make sence to me right now. So lay it on me, Sports Fans. And does any body have a line on the books for that beast?
