Bill, et al: The bottom line, I think, is that the installer is responsible for determining the suitability of the altimeter (or any other part, for that matter). Unfortunately, I do not feel that I am qualified to determine the suitability of the Chin Wah altimeter, so, absent that, I'd go for the TSO'd unit, which I am safe in assuming does meet the criteria. I suppose, if I were an avionics shop, I could independently test the unit and make a determination that way, but I don't have the equipment to do so.
