I don't think we are beating a dead horse here.

After all, we do have new members to the group that never heard the arguments
about the cable.

And we still have many members that still fly with the cable attached.

I flew for quite some time with the cable and I had two instances of trouble
taking off in strong cross winds because the steering authority would too early
be none.

The cross wind landings I managed all right, the momentum straightens the plane
out and one does get the noses down ASAP.

But taking off from a grass field in a strong cross wind was a different
adventure. Luckily the wind was so strong that no one else was out there to
fly. So my embarrassing zig zag maneuvers are only known to the group now.

I believe that the snubber cable was added to the Mooney M-10 to give it more a
touch of a trainer airplane. Landing should not be too easy. And the Mooney
tail is creating enough forces to get the plane straightened out with the
rudder alone.

On all other Coupes, the rudders are simply not powerful enough to overcome the
wethervaning tendencies.

Who ever converted back to the original setup (no snubber cable) is thankful
for the few extra seconds of positive control over their aircraft in hairy
situations.

I am and I'm not thinking of converting back.

It's being ground to bits in a slow mill;
it's being roasted at a slow fire;
it's being stung to death by single bees;
it's being drowned by drops;
it's going mad by grains.
