I decided to recover my wings a couple of years ago. What we discovered was
severe corrosion on the ribs and spars. About half of the corrosion was not
evident by merely looking at the structure. In scraping and prodding we
discovered the extent of the damage. (some was filled-in with putty and primed
over  !!). I ended up getting new (used) wings.

In my search for the wings we found one pair that was serviceable, out of maybe
20 pairs. These wings were located in the mid-west and in New Mexico. Also I
ended up replacing the horizontal stab that was also corroded. My plane had
undergone and passed annual inspections for over 10 years in this condition.

A boroscope may be legal but you are not going to detect all damage........
