I spent a year working on the same thing with my Alon.  In the end replacing
the discs cured the problem.  One side was worn much more than the other
side.  We suspect that with the excess piston travel at the callipers the
piston was sticking that side, preventing full application of the pads.

I hurt my chest testing the brakes first time after repair they were that
good!
