Syd.

Thank you for clearing this up.

I almost had a long explanation letter ready.

Syd, if this is a kit from Univair, would you have the part number available?

Thanks,

Hartmut

The device that Hartmut posted is the device on my Ercoupe. It is the Scalp
Saver kit from Univair. Some people have drilled a small hole in the end of
the "spike" and after inserting it through the hole in the cowl bracket, they
insert a cotter pin through the small hole to keep the cowl from blowing
higher.

The problem I have with every hold-open solution I have seen is that in windy
conditions, you must have something to keep the cowling from moving up OR down.
If it is just resting on a prop open deivce, the wind catches it and bends it
back over the top of the upper cowling. The device posted by Hartmut would take
care of that if there was a slot on the end of the leg to positively engage the
slot in the cowl bracket and prevent movement in either direction, I think.
