Prof. Ed is "right on".
I have a copy of a ERCO letter from W. L. Green (Chief Engineer
following Fred Weick's
resignation) to a Mr. S. A. Whitehead, Aircraft Factory
Inspector-in-Charge, dated June
10, 1948.
It states:
"This letter is to inform you that we have complied with the policy
given on CAA
Safety Regulation Release No. 281. Beginning with Ercoupe serial
number 4909,
the manufacturer's identification plate has been installed according
to the Release."
My information is that serial no. 4909 was completed 5/25/48 as a 415-E
model.
I do not have a copy of CAA SRR No. 281, but would speculate that said
location would
be on the pilot (left, or Port) side, below the horizontal stabilizer
and aft of its leading edge.

William R. Bayne

John,
Begging you pardon, but I believe you are incorrect.
I have a "G" model and my SandersĀ Ercoupe data plate is on the
left side, under the horizontal fin.
