Mine also were tight as a tick. I always remove the brake pedal pad to make 
things eaisier, although that is a chore in itself, then I identified where the 
floor boards were hanging up then trimmed them slightly so they could be 
removed/installed easier.  In the final analysis, when you are removing the 
floorboards and someone sees you, they will think there has been a bad 
accident, feet in the air and all that.  It's tough.
