You oughtg to try making them!  I used my old ones as patterns, but the holes 
didn't line up perfectly on the new ones.  Basically had to use awls as you 
suggested to hold everything in place and re-mark everything again before 
drilling.  Anything you have to do below panel level is an adventure in an 
Ercoupe!

But seriously, why keep old, decrepit floorboards?  If you have to pull them 
out and they are cracked and rotted, you might as well pull them, rebuild them, 
and replace them.
