Fred.

When connected to a power supply, it will show the voltage of the power bus it
is connected to.

In our Ercoupes it will show 12 Volts or less with the engine running below
1300 rpm, provided yours is having a generator.

If the engine is faster than 1500 rpm, the voltage should rise and show in
excess of 12 volts, depending on the outside temperature.

The regulator is adjusting the voltage according to the condition the battery
is in, including temperature. It needs a higher voltage to charge a cold
battery.

That's why you have the regulator mounted close to the battery and will see
close to 14 volts in cold weather conditions.

Thanks, it works on my 396 shows 7.4 volts on the internal battery. I
will se what it shows when hooked to the airplane cig lighter. (when I
get it back form my annual in March). You say it should be in excess
of 12 volts?

Fred

Ed.

In the Garmin manual for the 696 on page 136 Appendix A: DATA FIELD
OPTIONS, we find the "• External Voltage—the voltage on the external
power input (cigarette lighter receptacle)." listed .

>From the manual on page 30:
Changing the information shown in the data bar fields:1) From the Map
Page, Terrain Page, or the Info Page press the MENU Key.2) Turn or move
the FMS Joystick to highlight ‘Change Data Fields’ and pressthe ENT
Key.3) Move the FMS Joystick to highlight the desired data field.4)
Turn the FMS Joystick to access the list of options, then turn or move
theFMS Joystick to highlight the desired option and press the ENT Key.

There is also an image showing how to select the voltage.

Good luck.

  Thank you Hartmut,
Works beautifully on the 196. I should never have sold my 196.
Unfortunately maybe I don't know how to do it.
I can't seem to get volts info on my 696.
You did a great job of showing how to do it to the group.
Keep up the great advise to us.
