Remembering the maze of numbers sometimes results in a small slip. I've mistyped/misremembered this a few times, too. Instead of the increased gross weight STC allowing 1360 pounds gross weight, it really allows up to 1320 pounds gross weight in line with the Light Sport Aircraft regulation limit. Ed _____

It's far better to have someone refer you to an authoritative source of information that you can review and absorb correctly than to be "told" a half truth by someone who, in good faith, genuinely (but wrongly) believes it to be the whole truth. If the Ercoupe is Serial No. 1622 or below, the original trim was one of two methods of "loading" the elevator with a bungee. These planes must have the later trim system installed that operates a movable tab on the elevator if the engine is upgraded to 85hp. It doesn't matter whether you have the narrow or the wider trim tab if the plane is a 415-C or CD operating at 1260 lb. gross. These planes DO NOT have to have the additional baffles around the oil sump for cooling with 85 hp to be in compliance with Type Certificate 718. On the other hand, the D, E and G Models (and the 1360 lb. gross Light Sport STC), each "Normal Category" aircraft operating at 1400 lb. gross weight with 85 hp MUST have the wider trim tab AND the additional three baffles around the oil tank installed to be in compliance with ATC 787 (or 1360 lb. gross by STC). So the "true or not true" answer is properly "it depends" ;<) Regards, William R. Bayne .____|-(o)-|____. (Copyright 2010) --
