There are 3 ways a 415 can have an O-200 installed.
First, if it is D or is converted to a D, the STC can be used. No further approval is necessary. (Conversion to a D is in and of itself a can of worms.) Second, if it is not D, the STC can be used as Acceptable Data to support a field approval (which is Approved Data), or a previously approved installation can be used as Approved Data. Third, someone can install the engine, fill out some forms, not supply any Approved Data, send them to OKC and fly around with an unapproved installation. To say that installation of an O-200 engine disqualifies the plane as LSA or is an indication the plane is otherwise disqualified just further muddies the waters. -- John Cooper Skyport East www.skyportservices.net
