When WinZip prompts for the filename, just remove the last dot,
click OK and Extract it.  This will create a file that can be imported
in ER Mapper with Utilities/Import Image formats/USGS DEM.  (If you have
many of these files, I can give you a free batch wizard to import them all.)

PS - Under Options->Miscellaneous in WinZip, it is usually a good
idea to turn off the "TAR file smart CR/LF conversion" option as this can
sometimes cause Tar'd files to be uncompressed incorrectly.
