This is one of the annoying features of ER-Mapper. The same thing happens if you add another region to an existing header. For medium sized datasets such as a single Landsat scene this is only an anoyance. For gigabyte datasets, it takes 10 minutes or more to recalculate stats.
What I do is save a copy of the .ers file. Then after editing, I paste the stats back into the appropriate region in a text area. Note, however, that in your case you might want your algorithm to use the statistics on the region you created rather than the entire image. John Dr. John F.
