I have done a little machining on Niobium which is I believe also called
Columbium. It was easiest cut under a good flow of trichloralethalene
(not in my spell checker). Trichloral is a carcinogen so I tried to be
else where when it was cut, but occaisionally I had to do it. We liked
taking it back to the welding shop, it really heats up funny. If I
remember correctly they now cut the Niobium with CNC EDM, I might be
wrong about that.
