I have pretty much become a believer in the value of CAD, even at our scale
of development. After getting a little more proficient at designing in it,
and after accumulating a couple dozen drawings, I think we are getting real
value from it.

I am going to make an offer to ERPS that I think would benefit all of us.

If ERPS is willing to sanction the attachment of CAD files on the mailing
list, and endorse TurboCAD as the "official" CAD program, I would be
willing to buy a half dozen or so copies for the primary contributors.

I think we would all benefit by having more discussions with precise
drawings instead of hand-waving text descriptions, and email attachments
really are the most convenient way to do that. Most of the simple drawings
I have been making are under 30k, so it isn't like sending huge mpg files
around.

There is a benefit to sharing common tools, especially among amateurs who
aren't dedicating their lives to maximum proficiency with a tool set. I
can't say I have done any comparison shopping, because I picked TC only
because Russ and Phil were already using it, but it seems to do the job
OK. CAD programs are probably like programming environments as far as
preferences go, but if almost nobody at ERPS is using one at the moment,
you might as well adopt a common one.
