200k lbf-sec total impulse, more or less. Possibly, it doesn't make
much difference at all. A VTVL vehicle with that kind of impulse flying

vehicle to fly both manned and remote operated, and you are clear to do
at least some of your flight testing within the amateur exemption even
if you can't get it in as a PLN experimental craft.

True enough. That makes sense. How easy is it to get waivers though for the 15 second rule?
I've never been in much of a position to do any real ameteur rocketry, so I never really researched
it out too much. 200,000lbf-sec is probably enough to do quite a bit of VTVL testing, especially
if it isn't time limited. That would be more than enough to get it up to a sufficient altitude that it'll
hit terminal velocity on the way down, so you can get a semi-realistic test of your landing system.
Come to think of it, you might be able to get enough thrust to send a relatively large VTVL system
up to that altitude and land it without leaving the 200klbf-sec box. That lets you test almost
everything difficult other than the TPS.

Usenet hasn't been a useful medium since around the time I left high
school. What precisely were you expecting?

That's true. I guess I got learned a lot of the fundementals from sci.space.policy back in the day,
so I tend to get over nostalgic. I pretty much haven't posted a thing on there since I got married
two months back. Just very little new or interesting gets discussed there, just rants between
Rand and Dave O'neill, with 95% of it having almost nothing to do with space policy at all. Just
a nice little spat between a left-wing european, and a neocon American. Hardly enlightening
discourse. Ah........I'm probably preaching to the choir by now.

But I guess I was setting my expectations a bit too high.
