Hello Elham Charles Edward John and all other shy members,;) It's always nice to see new or silent members finally speak up!LOL They always make me day,and I'm sure Pln,Pablo and Ed will share my feelings,as well!;)
Charles,it's very nice of you to have brought this question up: Why should we think about this kind of questions?;) When you realize and witness the world is very much influenced by American or Japanese culture(in Asia),is it a good sign? Is there anything we can do to stop it or the GLOBALIZATION? Every nation has its own identity which is their own culture, sometimes they may fear that their culture is under threat of a more powerful nation... And they may consider it as a cultural crisis! Then at a time like this, you will find Q1 is quite important as how a culture is created or cultivated... As for Q2,it's all about business or social protocol. I asked the question because I thought this group is the ideal place for me to gather the 1st hand information from members from all over the world!!! It's much more fun than to get it from some site called executive planet for me! Last week,I was asked by an European businessman who was about to go on a business trip to China: a) What presents to buy for my Chinese suppliers or contacts? b) Should I give the gift to them before or after the deal? c) If they organise some sightseeing tours for me on the weekend, should I accept it,even though I have a terrible jet lag? d) If they offer me drinks more than I can afford, can I refuse them but won't offend them? It's not only important for business people but also for overseas- study students to know more about the country where they're about to stay and the people who they are about to live with... These are called GROUNDWORK. The better prepared you are,the more likely you'll have a pleasant stay or a successful deal!;) Good night and nice weekend to us all!
